Woman arrested for assaulting FRSC personnel over vehicle impoundment in Lagos
A yet-to-be-identified woman was arrested by officers of the Nigeria Police Force for repeatedly a§§aulting personnel of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Lekki, Lagos State.
The incident, part of which was captured in a video, occurred on Thursday, November 7, 2024.
According to a statement released on Monday, December 9, by the Corps Public Education Officer, Olusegun Ogungbemide, the incident began at approximately 1554hrs when a patrol team flagged down a Toyota Corolla with the registration number EPE690HH for a seatbelt violation.
“Upon requesting the vehicle’s papers, it was discovered that the documents had expired in December 2022, prompting the vehicle’s impoundment.
While the driver, who had contravened the law, did not resist arrest, a female passenger in the vehicle became provocative, verbally assaulted the arresting marshal, and threatened to prosecute them for doing their job.
As if her threat was not enough, the woman created a scene to elicit undeserved sympathy from other road users. When her antics failed, she resorted to physical assault, as seen in the attached video. She continued her a§§ault from the point of arrest and did not stop even after the vehicle was impounded at the Lekki Command.
When all efforts to calm her failed, the Unit Commander contacted the Divisional Police Officer at the Ajah Police Station, who swiftly deployed a team to arrest the woman and the driver for further investigation,” the statement reads in part.
