Why PVCs should no longer be the sole requirement for voting – INEC.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has recommended the use of computer-generated voting slips for individuals without Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).
INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, stated on Thursday in Abuja that PVCs should no longer be the sole requirement for voting, especially with the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) now in place.
Yakubu announced this during a review of the 2023 General Election and highlighted that INEC has identified 142 recommendations to improve electoral processes, covering areas such as voter management, education, logistics, election technology, and security. Of these, 86 recommendations require administrative action by INEC for implementation.
He further noted that following consultations with stakeholders and the conclusion of recent elections, now is the ideal time to begin implementing these improvements.
