Nigerian Government ready to welcome deported Nigerians from US — NiDCOM

The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) has stated that the Federal Government is prepared to welcome Nigerians deported from the United States.

NiDCOM’s Director of Media and Corporate Affairs, Abdur-Rahman Balogun, said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is overseeing the matter.

He added that an inter-agency committee, including NiDCOM, the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, and the National Security Adviser’s office, has been established to manage any potential mass deportation. However, Balogun clarified that NiDCOM is not aware of any Nigerians currently being processed for deportation.

This comes amid reports that 3,690 Nigerians in the U.S. face deportation following former President Donald Trump’s crackdown on illegal immigration. A document from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) revealed that as of November 24, 2024, over 1.4 million non-citizens have final removal orders, with Mexico and El Salvador having the highest numbers.
