Nigerian Government earns ₦2.4b in marriage revenue in 2024 — Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Ojo.

The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo has revealed that the Federal Government of Nigeria recorded a remarkable ₦2.4 billion in revenue from marriage registrations in 2024.

Speaking during a media briefing in Abuja on Tuesday, January 28, the minister highlighted the growing financial impact of the Ministry of Interior’s activities. “The Ministry’s marriage registry has become a significant source of revenue,” Tunji-Ojo stated.

He also noted a sharp increase in revenue from expatriate quota applications, which generated over ₦3.2 billion—a 150% increase in the Ministry’s overall revenue. The minister also reflected on the Ministry’s impressive performance in 2023, during which income from marriage registrations surpassed projections.

By October 31, 2023, the Ministry had collected ₦892.774 million, exceeding its target of ₦380 million by over ₦500 million.

Expatriate quota permits further bolstered revenue, bringing in ₦1.195 billion in 2023, nearly doubling the ₦600 million target.

Tunji-Ojo attributed the Ministry’s success to enhanced administrative efficiency and strategic reforms, saying, “These figures underscore the success of our policies and the dedication of our staff.”

With its robust financial performance, the Ministry of Interior continues to play a vital role in bolstering Nigeria’s national economy. Expectations are high for even greater revenue generation in the years ahead.
