EFCC arrests Delta State accountant general in ongoing investigation of Ex-Gov. Okowa’s N1.3 trillion fraud
The EFCC has reportedly taken into custody Mrs. Joy Enwa, the Accountant General of Delta State, as part of its ongoing probe into the former governor of the state, Ifeanyi Okowa.
The investigation centres around allegations of the misappropriation of approximately N1.3 trillion in state funds, which SaharaReporters understands to be linked to the 13 percent derivation fund allocated to oil-producing states.
Earlier in November, Okowa was arrested and detained by the EFCC in connection with the alleged diversion of the state funds. The former governor, who was also the vice-presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was taken into custody at the EFCC’s Port Harcourt division.
He is accused of embezzling state resources, including significant investments in the UTM Floating Liquefied Natural Gas Company and other assets in the oil sector.
In addition to Enwa’s arrest, the EFCC detained several other individuals last week, including Ekeruche, the former Director of Finance and Administration (DFA), and the Director of Administration from the Government House.
Both have been questioned and provided separate statements. When contacted for comment, EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale confirmed the arrest and detention of Enwa in relation to the ongoing inquiry into Okowa’s alleged actions.
“Yes, the accountant general was arrested and detained by the commission for some days before she was released. We also arrested some officials of the state government but they have been released as well,” he stated.
