Nigeria was on life support before Tinubu became president – Senator Akpabio
Senate President and Chairman of the 10th National Assembly, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has described the state of Nigeria as being on “life support” when President Bola Tinubu assumed office in May 2023.
Akpabio made this statement during his 2024 Constituency Briefing and Empowerment Programme held at the Ikot Ekpene Township Stadium.
Representing Akwa Ibom Northwest Senatorial District, he urged Nigerians, particularly the people of Akwa Ibom State, to rally behind Tinubu as he implements policies aimed at addressing the nation’s economic challenges.
Reflecting on a conversation with Tinubu about the state of the economy inherited from the previous administration, Akpabio quoted the president as saying, “I didn’t know it was this bad.”
The Senate President commended Tinubu for introducing significant reforms, including the removal of fuel subsidies, floating the naira, and proposing new tax bills, describing these measures as necessary steps to revive the economy.
