Nigerian Government Donates N30m to Family of Nigeria’s Flag Designer.

The Federal Government has donated ₦30 million to the family of the late Pa Taiwo Akinkunmi, the designer of Nigeria’s National Flag, two years after his passing.

The Director-General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Lanre Issa-Onilu, presented the cheque at the late icon’s residence in Elebu, Ibadan, alongside Oyo State NOA Director, Olukemi Afolayan. Akinkunmi passed away on August 29, 2023, at age 87.

President Bola Tinubu had earlier sent a delegation, led by the Minister of Information, Mohammed Idris, to condole with the family and promised financial support and a national burial.

However, the Oyo State Government stepped in last year to ensure a befitting burial. On Thursday, the FG fulfilled its pledge. NOA’s DG clarified that the ₦30 million donation was not payment for Akinkunmi’s service but a token of appreciation for his contributions to the nation. One of Akinkunmi’s sons, Samuel, thanked President Tinubu for the gesture.
