Doctors at the University College Hospital (UCH) are threatening to commence a strike on April 9 if the hospital’s electricity supply is not restored.

The University College Hospital in Ibadan, Oyo State, has issued a threat to commence a strike on April 9 if the hospital’s electricity supply is not restored.

UCH reportedly owes the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company an outstanding sum of up to N495 million. Consequently, the teaching hospital was disconnected from public power supply due to this outstanding debt.

Following the disconnection of electricity, doctors, nurses, and other hospital staff have refused to work beyond 4:00 PM unless the power supply is reconnected.

Furthermore, the hospital staff have issued a threat to embark on a seven-day strike if the hospital is not reconnected to electricity before Tuesday, April 9.

The UCH Public Relations Officer, Mrs. Funmilayo Adetuyibi, acknowledged the hospital’s need for assistance in settling the debt. She mentioned that the hospital is actively seeking funds to address the outstanding amount.
