Filmmaker Tyler Perry reveals the budget-friendly Christmas gifts he gave his son and explains why.

Billionaire Hollywood filmmaker Tyler Perry has shared why he avoids splurging on expensive Christmas gifts for his 10-year-old son, Aman.

The 55-year-old explained his approach during a recent episode of Sherri, hosted by Sherri Shepherd. “He doesn’t get a Christmas list. He gets two things: books and Legos,” Tyler said, adding, “He doesn’t have a job! What else is he going to get?”

Perry also recounted a time when he and his ex-girlfriend Gelila Bekele, Aman’s mother, decided to fly commercial instead of using private jets. At just five years old, Aman had already begun complaining about long lines, becoming accustomed to luxury travel.

They’ve been going coach for years,” Perry revealed. “You let your son fly coach?” Shepherd asked, surprised.

“Absolutely, so that he understands I worked; he did not! When he works, he can learn that lesson. He’s not going to be one of those spoiled rich kids—I can’t stand that.

No! He doesn’t have any money! I want him to know who he is before people start saying, ‘Oh, that’s Tyler Perry’s son.’ I make sure he’s not seen in public. Even when I’m at a game, I stay in the back so he can play and not be bothered.

These things are important to me so he can have as normal a life as possible. It’s very different from my childhood, but I don’t want him to grow up spoiled, rich, and entitled.”
