Nigerian Kidnap kingpin Evans is now ‘born-again — Lawyer.

Suspected kidnap kingpin Chukwudimeme Onwuamadike, popularly known as Evans, has applied for mercy from the Lagos State Government, claiming to have reformed while in prison.

His lawyer, Emefo Etudo, informed the Lagos State High Court in Ikeja on Wednesday that Evans had submitted a plea bargain application to the Attorney-General’s office.

This followed his plea of not guilty to an amended five-count charge, including murder, attempted murder, and conspiracy to commit kidnapping. Etudo argued that Evans had changed, stating, “He was a young man consumed by crime, but he is now remorseful.

He is currently a 200-level student at the National Open University and excelled in NECO exams while in prison, supported by a Federal Government scholarship.”

He further proposed that Evans be allowed to visit schools to educate youths about the dangers of crime.

State Prosecutor Y.A. Sule confirmed receipt of the plea bargain request, noting that it would be reviewed. However, he emphasized that the day’s proceedings focused on Evans’ re-arraignment to restart the trial.

Justice Adenike Coker adjourned the case to March 20 for a possible trial. Speaking to journalists, Etudo credited Evans’ transformation to efforts by the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) and the Federal Government.
